Thure Thörn | 1918 - 2005
He was the son of plasterer Johan Lauritz Thörn and Anna Matilda Persson and from 1947 married to Ada Cecilia Nilsson. Thure Thörn grew up on Möllevången in Malmö and trained in his father's profession as a plasterer and worked for ten years in his father's foundry in Malmö. He then studied painting at the Scanian School of Painting in Malmö 1936-1938 and debuted with the group Blandningen in Malmö in 1938. This was followed by studies with Robert Nilsson at Konstfack in Stockholm 1944–1947. He made his debut as a sculptor in 1944 at the Skåne Art Association's autumn salon and then regularly participated in these, as well as at Liljevalch's art gallery, Sweden's general art association, Norrviken's gardens and with the Artists' Cooperation Organization (KSO) and others. Separately, he exhibited, among other things, in the SDS hall in Malmö. He has designed free-standing sculptures and portrait figures and received the City of Malmö's cultural scholarship in 1967. For St. Andrew's Church in Malmö, he made a triumphal crucifix in black oak in 1959. He is represented at Malmö Museum.
