Stig Blomberg | 1901-1970

Stig Blomberg, who was the son of Lieutenant Colonel Arvid Blomberg and Gerd Westrell, studied at the Academy of Arts in Stockholm. In 1923, he received a royal medal and scholarship for trips to Italy, Spain, France, Africa and the USA in the period 1927–1930. He stayed, among other things, in Paris and studied there at the Maison Watteau.

He returned to the Academy of Arts in the years 1951-1961 as a professor. He liked to sculpt children and youth with humor and joy. His work can be found all over Sweden. He was also a book illustrator under the pseudonym T Arvidsson.

For Ystad-Metall, he designed the well-known statuette "Spring", also called Fritidsflickan, for the exhibition "Fritiden" that Ystad arranged in 1936. The following year he decorated Halmstad's new town hall.

Blomberg was awarded a bronze medal in sculpture for the work "Wrestling Boys" at the art competitions at the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936. He was married from 1932 to 1942 to the journalist Ven Nyberg and from 1945 to Inga Borén. In the first marriage, the daughter Jane Fredlund was born. He is buried at the Northern Cemetery outside Stockholm.

Blomberg is represented at, among others, the National Museum in Stockholm.
